Confirming its commitment to support essential events in the field of culture, education and sports Altimo, an international $25 billion telecoms investor, has taken the role of the Official Sponsor for this year’s Stockholm Open international tennis tournament held between 06 and 14 October. The event was a great opportunity for Altimo to showcase its strength within its industry.

Stockholm Open is the tennis tournament on the ATP tour’s International Series held in Stockholm, Sweden in October each year. Stockholm Open is known for its devoted audience which contributes to a very positive atmosphere at the stadium. 40,000 tickets were sold to the 2007 tournament, slightly below the record of 42,000 spectators set in 2006. Swedish television broadcasted approximately 40 hours fox this year’s Stockholm Open. In total, the tournament was broadcast in 75 countries around the world.

The Stockholm Open was founded in 1969 and has been held each year since. Ever since 1969, the tournament has been played on hard court at Kungliga Tennishallen (the Royal tennis hall), except for 1989-1994 when it was held at the Stockholm Globe Arena. Among previous champions are Björn Borg, Boris Becker, Stefan Edberg and John McEnroe. This year’s tournament was won by Ivo Karlovic from Croatia.

Altimo has a long-term commitment to Scandinavia. In August 2007, Altimo sponsored the Opening of the annual Baltic Sea Festival with a world famous Saint-Petersbourg concert as well as was the main organizer of the Vietnamese Water Puppets Theater performance in Stockholm in early fall.
